As Sandown Sports Club stands as a pillar of fitness and adventure in our community, it's essential to take a moment to reflect on the remarkable journey that has brought us to where we are today. Join us on our journey through time as we celebrate the rich history of our beloved sports club.

Sandown Sports was founded in 1971, originally opening as 'Esher's own ski slope'. In the early years, the focus was on nurturing local talent and providing a space for athletes to hone their skills. The ski school quickly became well known, with Olympic skiers Miss Gina Hathron (left) and Miss Divina Galcia (right) opening the slope at the start of the 1972/3 season.  

After just three years of the Ski School opening, Esher had a potential champion. School Boy Raymond Burr showed tremendous skill in the sport. His rapid improvement led to him competing in the National School Championships in Edinburgh, where he came sixth out of 120 competitors in the slalom event. Raymond carried on skiing at Sandown and went on to compete in many more championships.

Over the years, Sandown Sports evolved into much more than just a ski facility. It became a community hub that engaged individuals of all ages and backgrounds. The Ski School brought pride to the community and showcased the dedication and talent that the school had nurtured.

In response to the growing demand for state-of-the-art facilities, Sandown Sports Club expanded and built a fitness centre. This transformation introduced new training equipment and enhanced amenities, ensuring that our customers had everything they needed to reach their full potential. In 2017, excitement filled the air as the grand opening of Skywalk Adventure finally became a reality. Suspended among the treetops, this thrilling adventure brought a whole new dimension of excitement to our community.

As we look ahead to a future filled with exciting possibilities, Sandown Sports Club remains committed to improving our facilities and keeping our members happy. As we embark on the next chapter of our journey, we do so with a profound sense of gratitude for our past and an unyielding commitment to shaping a brighter future for our community.
